This verse, along with the meaning behind just one tiny word, got me this morning...
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."
(2 Corinthians 5:19, 20)
AMBASSADOR: an official envoy (a messenger or representative)
especially : a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the resident representative of his or her own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment (involving the work of maintaining good relations between the governments of different countries)
When an Foreign Ambassador comes to our country, we could ask him/her any question about their country, its customs, its leaders and they are going to explain it so intimately that, when we walk away, we will feel like we better understand where they come from and why they are here... A country doesn't choose an ambassador lightly. Neither did God when He chose to send His perfect Son to die on the Cross so that we could know the saving grace of Heaven.
As a child of God, this world is not our home, yet while we are here, we are to sanctify the Lord God in our hearts so that we can represent our Heavenly home and the sweet Savior wisely, with the wisdom that is from above that "is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." (James 3:17 KJV) , being ready "always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15 KJV)
Being an ambassador for Christ is not something WE should take lightly either!
Amen! : )
